Dark map of the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii, made of more than 165,000 glowing dots for every post office from 1639 to 2000. Orange dots for the earliest offices cluster in New England and along the Atlantic, and blue dots for later ones fill the West and Appalachia. Callouts mark Boston (1639), the oldest record, and Hinsdale, N.H., the oldest post office still in the same building.
